Jumper Setting

If like me, you are always confused with the jumper settings of your hard disk and wonders what is primary and what is secondary and how to change the jumpers to make the HDD primary or slave, here is a complete guide about jumper settings for hard disks. Now the settings do depend on hard drive manufacturers like maxtor, samsung and seagate and almost all the hard disks to carry the setting information on them.

You have to reconfigure jumper settings on both of your hard drives before inserting and other Hard Drive/ CD-DVD Room in your computer. Mostly all hard drives have a printed label on their back.
All the hard drive in the market usually has four different jumper settings. When you insert the jumper setting into your hard drive worng, it will restrice the capacity of your computer to enable your hard.    

Now let’s find out how these four jumper setting works and acts as per according to their working mechanism.
1. Cable Select.
The hard drive is mostly configured by using cable select setting. This allows your hard drive to understand the funtion of master and slave.

2. Master or single drive.
Seagate hard drives are installed when by using master of single drive setting.  This option makes your diver to act as a master. No two same drive cannot be used as a master or single drive at the same time.

3. Drive as slave.
This option is used when master drive is already setup and you want to add another hard drive or CD/DVD drive.

4. Limit drive capacity
It is usually used when either your computer is displaying a message “Hard disc drive controller failure”, when your computer starts. That means your computer is not recognizing your newly installed hard drive or your computer system has stopped responding during the process of boot.
