Linksys Router IP

The default Linksys router IP address is 192.168.1.1, which is set by the manufacturer before it was shipped out from the factory. This particular IP is used by some other lesser known brands, but due to Linksys’s popularity this IP can somewhat be described as their trademark IP. However, you may change it at any time via the Linksys router control panel.

How to find your router address in Windows

In order to find your router address, simple go to Start -> Run.
When the run dialogue box comes up, type in “cmd” (without the quotes) and press OK.

This will bring up the command prompt. This utility has a plethora of available commands, but for now we will be using the ipconfig command.

How do I see what my router IP is?

We can find our router IP by using a built-in Windows program called “ipconfig”.

To use ipconfig, simply follow these instructions:

  • Go to Start -> Run, and type “ipconfig” (without the quotes) in the field and then press enter or the “OK” button.
  • This will display your connection information. Look for the section labeled “Default Gateway”. The address listed for that is your router’s address. It should be something like 192.168.x.x. If you ever want to access the router’s control panel, all you have to do is open up a web browser (such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox) and type the IP you found into your address bar.

If you visit the Linksys control panel and are having trouble accessing your account because you have forgotten your password or just may not know what it was in the first place. First, try using the default account settings the gain access.

(Older Linksys router models)

Username: blank
Password: admin

For older models, just leave the username field empty and use “admin” as the password.

(Newer Linksys Models)

Username: admin
Password: admin

For newer models, both the username and password should be set to admin.

If you aren’t sure whether you have a newer or older linksys model, just try both sets out and see if you have any luck. If all else fails and you cannot remember your password, simply find the “RESET” button on the router and hold it in for 30 seconds (this causes the rotuer to perform a hard reboot, which restores it’s settings to the factory default). After you’ve done this, go back to the login page and the sets out again and with that you should be able to gain access to your settings!
