List of Freelance Sites

I had started on the web as a freelancer making money online through various websites. I started as a Programmer, CMS coder and then moved on to do tech writing (just for fun) and have done almost all kind of work as freelancer, even server management back in college days.

Working as a freelancer can be great for you if you are the right person and are in right frame of mind. For me, it works because this lifestyle suits me and I had always hated those 9 to 5 jobs where way too much time gets wasted in doing things which are irrelevant, not to mention the commuting time and by the time you get back to home, you are tired like anything.

Anyway this is my way take of full time traditional jobs, saying that, being a freelancer is not easy as you have to find your work and the earnings are never the same, also you won’t be getting any insurance and health support. More about it on some other day…

For the time being, here is the list of Freelance sites where you can find some jobs and make money

List of Freelancer Sites

1. Rentacoder - Site which boats 250k members (though the active number will be way small) and with average bidding of 12 in first 24 hours, Rentaocder is one of the most busiest Freelance Website. Though there is fierce competition between coders which often result in bidding war between bidders, making the auction heavily tilted towards the buyer.

2. GetaFreelancer - GAF is mostly for designers, writers and web related work, though the site doesn’t look that good but it has good list of freelancers hanging around.

3. Guru.com - Guru.com is another of Big freelancing sites where buyers post projects and bidders place their bids. It has all kind of projects from Programming and designing related to legal, Fashion and Consulting.

4. eLance.com - One of the big 4 Freelance site, does has some big companies listed here and the size of the projects is also way bigger then then others. As usual, you can find all kind of projects related to IT, Marketing, Consulting on it.

5. iFreelance - iFreelance is another of mid size freelance board which allows all kind of projects.

6. Scriptlance - Scriptlance is mostly for designers and programmers though it does have good number of other projects too.

7. GetaCoder - Mostly for programmers, Coders and designers.

8. Freelancers.net - Very old site though not properly maintained now but still you can find good work from here.

9. Project4Hire - Another freelancing site dedicated to developers, programmers and tech stuff. Project4Hire can probably get into the big site leagues as I have seen some good projects on it on regular basis.

Freelance Site for Designers and Developers

1. Freelance Switch Board - Job board offered by freelanceswitch, though its no way near to the Big 4, you can still search it to find some good designers and developers. The good thing with such job boards is that they have way less noise as compared to big freelance boards.

2. 37 Signals Job Board is another small place where some big company owners and startup owners look for freelancers, if you are good, you can easily find some great jobs and work here.

3. ProgrammermeetDesigner - Programmer Meet Designer is a site for both programmers and designers (as the name suggests) and a good hanging point for lot of good freelancers, skilled people, startup owners and entrepreneurs.

Full time Job and Freelance Websites

Many sites offer jobs listing but you can find freelance jobs in them too. Here is a list of such sites

1. Krop - krop is a very big job search site and though most of the jobs are full time, I have seen many jobs which are contract based, in any case if you are skilled and feels confident enough, call the person or mail them and tell them you want to work as a freelancer work from home.

Some other small Freelance websites -

1. Freelance Work - Freelance website with all kind of projects on offering.

2. 8. FreelanceJobSearch - A small website but it does have active projects on it.

3. Contracted Work - Small freelancing site + Full time jobs.

If you have some other working websites where Freelancers can find work and projects, please put in comments.

Surprisingly, the list does not include odesk.com. Perhaps it’s the largest of all the online job sites. I am personally providing my freelance services there, and earning pretty good.
