Make Internet Explorer More Secure with InPrivate Browsing - Safely Browse Any Sites

In case you are not aware, Now Internet Explorer 7 and 8 comes with a new feature called InPrivate Browsing. It’s basically suitable for public and multi-user PCs. InPrivate Browsing prevents other users to view the list of sites you visited. If you browse with this feature then no one can track your activity on that computer. Also it’s a great feature while surfing secure sites like Banking, PayPal etc. You can start InPrivate Browsing from the new tab or from the menu Tools -> InPrivate Browsing. You can also use short cut key ctrl+shift+p.

On Windows 7 it’s easier to start InPrivate Browsing directly just by right clicking the IE icon on taskbar.

You can make sure that you are surfing with InPrivate Browsing from the safety icon on your browser’s address bar.

While surfing with InPrivate Browsing it stores cookies and temporary internet files like natural browsing, but as soon you close the session it automatically deletes all stored cookies and temporary files. When you first choose InPrivate Browsing it opens a new window and thereafter all tabs will open in InPrivate mode by default until you close the session. However, there will be no effect with new IE windows and it will open in normal browsing mode.

Basically InPrivate Browsing uses following tricks …

  • Cookies are kept in memory to make sure the site works fine but deleted instantly when you close the browser window.
  • Temporary Internet Files are also kept on local disk like normal browsing but deleted soon after closing the window.
  • No webpage history stored.
  • Form data, Auto Complete and passwords are not stored anywhere.
  • All temporary information stored in encrypted format to get rid of Anti-phishing cache.

Does this mean that it is safe from webwatcher?

Webwatcher should be able to pick up InPrivate browsing. If not, E-Blaster will. I use that program and it labels sessions as “InPrivate browsing” and records everything. I recommend E-Blaster. I tried Webwatcher and it was a bit too complicated. E-Blaster is much smoother and easy to install.
