Connect mp3 player to Car Stereo

If you grew bored of the same radio songs that repeat over and over again and CDs are not enough for you there is one more way to listen to your favorite songs: connect your mp3 player to the car stereo or audio system. Here are few ways to do it -

1. Front AUX jack
Almost every car stereo available today on the market has an auxiliary input. You should find a 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) input jack. This is the way you can connect every mp3 player to your car stereo. All you need is a stereo audio cable with 3.5 mm jack at both ends. Make sure to buy one with the proper length for the place you wish to place your mp3 player. If it’s too long it will get in your way and if it’s too short it will simply be useless. Plug one end in the AUX input jack of your car’s stereo and the other in the mp3’s headphones input jack.

2. Back side AUX jack
Some car stereos have the AUX jack on the back rather than on the front and use RCA connections instead of 3.5 mm jack. You need to buy the cable with the proper jacks and the proper length. Pull out the stereo from the dashboard, plug the RCA jacks keeping the color combination (usually red / white or red / black) then find a way to get the cable to the front side of the dashboard. You may have to do a little “tuning” to get it done.

3. FM modulators
A wireless way to connect your mp3 player to the car’s stereo system is to use a FM transmitter. You can find one at any electronics store and maybe at gas stations. It works just like a usual radio antenna does just only it emits over a much smaller area.  They come either with a 3.5 mm jack, internal memory or USB jack for you to plug in a memory stick. It takes the power from the briquette socket. Make sure to set its frequency to one different from any radio station or you will get a scrambled signal.

4. Tape deck
It’s a fake tape with a magnetic contact where the band is read and simulates the same process. It has a cable with a 3.5 mm jack to plug in your mp3 player.

5. iPod connection
Some factory stereos come with an iPod jack somewhere integrated in the dashboard but you need to have an iPod for this to work. This is usually an optional you can order when you buy a car but can but an aftermarket one.
