Multimedia Database
Multimedia database are the data that consists of images, graphics, audio, video, animation along with textual data. Multi Media data usage had grown up in the last couple of decades. The viewers are fascinated with the interactive information displayed to them.
Multimedia database is used to store the multimedia data.
The three prime reasons for Multimedia database to evolve:
• Usage of scanners, web cameras, digital cameras, printers have increased along with the usage of personal computers. Lots of personal multimedia files have been created individually
• There is the advanced network that supports multimedia communication really fast.
• The trend of using a multimedia application is expected to grow wildly in the future.
Multimedia types:• Static Media – They are time independent like image files.
• Dynamic Media – They are time dependent like audio and video files with their play time.
• Dimensional Media – They are the animation or graphic files.
Multimedia Database design:• A Multimedia database designed considering the different types of input possible for the multimedia data. Ex: Scanners, Digital Cameras
• MMDB in short for Multimedia database considers the possible output devices required EX: Monitor to display the video, animation files and a speaker to play the audio track.
• A Multimedia database has to support different encoding and storage formats. As each multimedia data comes up with different encoding techniques.
• Multimedia database has to support different applications and operating systems.
• A Multimedia database has to be integrated with the relational model as well as the object oriented data model. Because of the reason, that most of the textual data come from the relational database and most of the video data from the object oriented model.
• Multimedia database has to support the different user queries on multimedia data. Ex: User type in keywords to search for a media file, user might wish to see a clip from the entire media file.
• Multimedia database supports schematic mode of search as well as paradigmatic mode of search from the users. EX: searching image of a train with the key word called “train” is schematic mode of search, searching the image of a train with the help of a image of the train is paradigmatic mode of search.
• Multimedia database is also expected to support Content Based Retrieval (CBR) search method also. That is a pattern of the image you are searching for would be displayed in order to search the database with the images of similar patterns that has been asked by the user to search for.
