Oracle Buys Sun Microsystems

Oracle has bought Sun Microsystems for USD $5.6 Billion. The news came as surprise as people were still talking about possible IBM Sun buyout but Oracle suddenly came from nowhere and offered to buy Sun at USD 9.5 per share.

The Actual buyout is of around 7.4 billion dollars but after including Sun’s Debt, it comes out to be about 5.6 billion dollars. It may turn out to be excellent move by Oracle to buy sun and a better deal both both Oracle and Sun Microsystems as compared to IBM as Oracle can get into server market of Suns’.

It will be interesting to see how Oracle looks at Solaris and MySQL and Open Office and whether they are looking to continue supporting them as there was speculation going on that Oracle buying sun may be the end of Solaris.

You can know more about it and other details of the deal through the official Joint Press Release of Sun and Oracle.
