Pain between Shoulder Blades

Pain between shoulder blades is often considered as a serious health problem which should not be ignored and requires immediate treatment. The other name for shoulder blades is scapula which refers to the bones structure in upper back part of the body.

This structure of bones connects arms to the chest wall. Shoulder blades are enclosed by muscles and tissues and are a part of the socket which connects to the upper arms and therefore allowing smooth movement of shoulders. Like other parts of the body shoulder blades may also bear severe pain and swelling which is referred as pain between shoulder blades. A large number of people often complain about having pain between shoulder blades and there can be various reasons for it.

Causes of pain between shoulder blades:

Gall bladder pain
Here the Pain originates from lower abdomen part and causes severe pain between shoulder blades. The other symptoms of gall bladder disorder are vomiting, nausea, gas problems, queasiness etc. A person experiences this illness mostly during night.

Arthritis and disc diseases
The other name for neck pain caused by Arthritis and disc diseases is tortocollis. This health disease causes pain in the neck which leads to severe pain between shoulder blades. Due to this sickness a person experiences swelling in arms, hands, shoulders or even in head.

Angina pectoris
It causes severe throat, stomach, shoulders and chest pain.

Esophageal cancer & Liver cancer are the two other serious health problems which causes pain between the shoulder blades.

Preventions and Cure

In order to cure pain between shoulder blades it is suggested to consult a physiotherapist or you can perform a few exercises at home also which will help you to get rid of it.

These include:

• To avoid pain between shoulder blades it is suggested that you should daily stretch your arms and shoulders. It helps in reducing pain & swelling and improves the movement, flexibility and mobility of shoulder joints. By performing simple and basic stretches daily you will slowly but surely start feeling relaxed and relieved of pain between shoulder blades.

• ‘Ice’ also helps in curing pain between shoulder blades. What you need to do is apply ice over your shoulders as it cools and numbs down the shoulders which ultimately reduces the swelling& pain between the shoulder blades.

If performing these home treatments doesn’t provide you satisfactory results it is suggested to right away consult a physician for diagnosis and medication.
