qttask.exe

qttask.exe is an executable file that installs QuickTime Tray Icon which in turn Automatically Launch QuickTime Window and it is used by QuickTime for checking latest updates at QuickTime website. It is very obvious that the qttask.exe executable file is not an essential executable file for your system to function; the qttask.exe executable file isn’t a Windows operating file system. The qttask.exe executable file is only a complimentary process on your system, for your comfort.

You can remove the qttask.exe executable file from your system by opening QuickTime and select the edit option and under it the preference and then the QuickTime preferences, when the QuickTime setting box opens select the Update Check from the dropdown menu and uncheck the automatic updates, afterwards the qttask.exe executable file will no longer start up.

The qttask.exe executable file location path is C:\Program Files\QuickTime\. If it happens to find another instance of the qttask.exe executable file in your computer, then this has to be a virus, spyware, malware, worm or a Trojan attacking your system and it has to be scanned and omitted from your system permanently preventing your system from severe harms or hackers that can steal your personal information like your passwords or credit card number.

You can check how many instances of this process are running on your operating system by checking your task manager (you can get the task manager by stroking Alt+Ctrl+Del) and find the qttask.exe process under the processes tab.

Beside checking the location of your operating system files and making sure they are at the proper location, always remember this quote: If a “non-Microsoft” .exe file is located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder, then there is a high risk for a virus, spyware, and Trojan or worm infection!

Other than the viruses disguising in the form of the qttask.exe executable and the unneeded consumption of memory and CPU, there is no harm out of running this process.

These viruses previously mentioned can use the same exact name of the Windows operating system executable files, like the qttask.exe executable file, or add a slight change to the file name as a sort of camouflage. You should remove those spy Trojans named after the qttask.exe executable from your system immediately as in that case the process had become a security risk on your computer that has to be detected and deleted using a powerful antivirus like Norton or MacAfee.
