Remove Keylogger

First off, let’s start by explaining what exactly a keylogger is. A keylogger is a program that is designed to capture keystrokes that the user has input the the keyboard. What this means is that anytime the user types something into the keyboard, the program then records the keystrokes and usually will output them to a log or to another user through perhaps a LAN or the Internet.

This can lead to passwords, credit cards numbers, and even identities being stolen. Because of this, it is important to make sure that no keyloggers are running on your system, and to make sure your information is safe. After reading this article, you should have an idea of how to remove keyloggers from your system.

If you think that you may be infected with a keylogger, it would be advised to not login to any important sites that deal with any pertinent information (PayPal, bank account websites, etc…). If you absolutely need to login to some type of account, you can use the on-screen keyboard built into Windows OS. This will allow you to input letters and characters without typing anything on the keyboard so that the keylogger cannot track you. Do so by navigating to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Accessibility -> On-Screen Keyboard. It should be noted that if you are running a Mac or Linux OS, then being infected with a keylogger is not likely. These types of malicious software are usually found on Windows systems.

To get rid of it, I would advise going to Kaspersky’s website and downloading a free 30 day trial of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 to aid in removing any keyloggers you may have. This virus software has a great detection ratio of any types of viruses and malicious software (in this case, keyloggers) and detect and remove any found. Once you’ve downloaded and installed the anti-virus software, make sure to do a full system scan and then let it run and do its thing.

If it detects any forms of malicious software, it will first inform you of what action to take in most cases. The best options is to usually just delete the infected file, or at least try to disinfect said file first. When running the antivirus software, also make sure to check for updates frequently. These updates provide the latest definitions of the different types of malwares, spywares, viruses, keyloggers, etc… that are in the wild and will help to protect you from them.

After scanning and removing any traces of keyloggers found, you should be free to continue life. :)
