If it happens that you drop your iPod in the pool or in toilet(!), forget it in the rain or spill your coffee on it don’t panic as you can still repair your wet ipod

Fix it yourself
One thing about ipod is its water resistant body. Due to its sturdiness and tight construction liquids have little space to enter the casing. Whether it is a coffee spill that you immediately wiped off or you took it for a swim you have to turn it off as soon as possible and in the end be as sure as possible it is completely dried inside. The best way to do this is by opening it. Be careful! This will void the warranty!

First thing you open it disconnect the battery to avoid shorting the iPod. It is very important! After you have done that wipe everything off with some paper towels. Don’t use fabric towels or clothes because those charge up with static electricity and can produce sparks.

Now you can either leave it in a ventilated, dry room but even better sink it in desiccant or uncooked rice for at least 24h. This should suck out all the moisture.

If it had something different from water, like coke or coffee, it is a great possibility that there will be residues left on the circuits. Wipe them off gently with special electronics alcohol and give a few minutes to fully evaporate.

In the end reconstruct you iPod and keep your fingers crossed so you won’t find any remaining parts and screws after you think it’s assembled.

Can I use the warranty?
Apple’s warranty, even the extended one which may have won’t cover liquid damage. However, if you have a third party warranty it may cover it. Check the contract and see if you are lucky.
Also, you may want to try a trick: if it’s no longer working after it is completely dried and you’ve done that without opening the iPod then send it to an official service. If you are lucky you can have yours fixed or replaced. The bad part is that most of the times Apple’s employees figure out it was liquid damaged.

Third party service to repair wet ipod
If home repair is not the job for you have it repaired at a third party iPod service. It will cost you some and there is no guarantee it will save it but at least you can give it a try.

There is an unadvertised and almost unknown Apple policy. According to it you can trade your liquid damaged iPod with a refurbished one for $199 USD.
