RG-6
The term RG-6 is used to describe a large range of different coxial cables in use today.
The “RG” stands for radio guide, and was originally a specification used by the military to help classify different cables, but since then has become obsolete over the years as a result of lack of use.
RG-6 is used to describe a particular range of cables, with a broad characteristic they all have in common. They are coaxial cables with 75 ohm impedances and also have 18 AWG center conductors. This particular specification hasn’t always been in use, however, but today it is what classifies a coaxial cable as an RG-6.
An example of the RG-6 technologies in use would be an RG-6 connector, which utilizes swedge technology in order to be capable of terminating with a compression of 360 degrees. This helps to seal the connector that surrounds the cable jacket, which improves general durability and pull-out strength. It also helps with improving the electrical performance of the cable.
These cables can be used in distributing a signal from a satellite dish, cable TV, and also signals from a rooftop antenna. When installing a RG-6 coaxial cable, always make sure to see if the cable is the one that you actually want to be installing.
The most common type of RG-6 cable is the cable TV distribution coaxial cable, also known as CATV. This cable has become somewhat of a standard in homes, many replacing the smaller RG-59 in the past few years. These utilize a copper coated steel center conductor in combination with an aluminum brand shield. They may also have a solid copper center conductor and much heavier shielding depending on their application and intended use.
These cables are fitted to devices on either end. In CATV distributon, the style is usually that of an F connector. In baseband video, a BNC connector is used. Their various specifications include the following: F6TSSV, F6TSSVcu, F6TVS, F6TVScu, F660BV, F660BVcu, F660BVF,F660BVM, F690BV, F690BVcu, F690BVF, F690BVM maximum range.
What is BNC?
A BNC Connector (Bayonet Neill-Concelman) is simply a radio frequency connector used for terminating a coaxial cable. The name comes from a combination of the two inventors of the device: Paul Neill and Carl Concelman. The “Bayonet” part of the name comes from the way it was planned to be developed, which involved a bayonet mount type mechanism used for locking it in place. More on BNC connectors
