A Satellite Receiver can be a dish like object kept outside your home or it could be a digital box connected with your TV or could have both of the components together as a satellite receiver. The type of the satellite receiver one chooses depends on the required type of functions a viewer would want the satellite receiver to perform for him.
Here is the list of different types of satellite receiver along with their functionality -
Standard Satellite Receivers: Standard satellite receivers are simple satellite receiver usually a dish placed outside your home to receive satellite signals from the active transponder of the satellites. These receivers have the ability to convert the satellite signal to electrical signals and pass on the signals via a cable to your TV. As you change the channel numbers, the receiver switches from one frequency to other frequency and brings it on to the next channel in your TV box. These receivers have the basic TV tuning functionality.
HD Satellite Receivers: The HD Satellite receivers have a dish as well as a digital box. High Definition Satellite receivers receive High definition TV signals from the satellite and send converted electrical signals to HDTV. It provides TV program guides which would let you know the program details of all the channels like timings, information about what the program is about and more. Using the TV Program guide you can plan or decide on what are the programs to be watched next to the current program, so that you would not miss your choice of program without having the information regarding its telecast details.
DVR Embedded Satellite Receivers: DVR Digital Video Recording is a functionality embedded with the standard satellite receivers. The digital box receiver acts as a DVR allowing you to set the recording options for specific programs while you are watching a different program in a different TV channel. When your two favorite programs are running at the same time in two different channels, you can DVR one of them and happily watch the other one without switching between channels to catch up the story line. DVR receivers has the PVR facility that is Personal Video Recorder, which would allow you to rewind, fast forward or pause the recorded program when you watch them later. DVRs generally come with 100 hrs of recording options. But there are 200 hrs DVR recording options available with certain Satellite Dish providers.
