Scalp Acne – Causes and Treatment
Scalp acne is often referred to as a serious and distressing skin disease which occurs due to tenderness of sebaceous glands, blocking of skin pores and hair follicles. This skin disease leads to production of itchy and painful pustules on the scalp or on the frontal hairline. There are various reasons that trigger sore acnes on the scalp such as highly oily scalp, chicken pox, dirty scalp comprising bacteria and many others. Scalp acne is known as mildest form of Folliculitis, a follicle hair disorder that causes itchy acnes along with the hairline or on the scalp. This skin disease, if not treated properly may lead to other hazardous skin disease named Necrotica Miliaris. It produces black colored large papules on the scalp thus, resulting in severe pain and irritation. It is recommended that an individual should consult a dermatologist for effective medication and diagnosis so as to get rid of this problem permanently.
Main causes of Scalp acne
•Dandruff
Pityriasis is the medical name of dandruff and is considered as one of the most common problems which give birth to scalp acne. Scalp acne is a contagious and infectious disease that causes dry and itchy scalp. It is suggested that an individual should not share his or her comb or hair brush with an affected person. He or she should wash their hair with anti-dandruff shampoos and may apply effective conditioners.
• Dry Scalp:
Dry scalp is another factor which causes painful and irritating scalp acnes. There are several products available which assists in treating dry scalp problems. These include various moisturizers, conditioners, antiseptic lotions, anti-dandruff shampoos etc. One can also visit hair salons for effective treatments like hair spa or scalp massage.
• Oily Scalp:
Oily scalp is the condition which frequently causes painful scalp acne and itching. It is advised that a person should utilize effective mild hair shampoos, scalp astringents and other oil removal tonics, available easily at the marketplace. One can also contact physician for proper medication and treatment.
Various other causes of scalp acne:
• Drinks or beverages containing caffeine
• Excessive exposure to heat or sunlight
• High stress levels
• Seasonal changes
• Poor hygiene conditions
• Drug toxicity, usually steroids
• Hormonal imbalance
• Heredity
• Inadequate diet requirements
Things to avoid:
• A person should not consume much oily food on daily basis as it aggravates Scalp acne.
• Apply mild shampoos and rinse your hair with cold water at least twice a week.
• Avoid using hair conditioners more frequently as they comprises of humectants which may originate scalp acnes.
• Do not Rinse your hair with very hot water especially during winter season, as it is harmful for the scalp.
Treatment and Cure
• A sufferer should always wash his or her hair with shampoos that contain ingredients such as salicylic acid as it helps in preventing scalp acnes. A person can apply shampoo on the scalp using cotton ball or wool.
• If you are suffering from mild pustules on the scalp then apply those hair shampoos which are manufactured specially for sensitive or oily skin.
• An individual can also use anti-dandruff shampoos like Ketoconazole, Ciclopirox etc along with effective hair conditioners as they aid in treating scalp acnes.
• One can also take effectual medicines like oral antibiotics, oral topical steroids and topical antibiotics on recommendation of doctors and can also seek advice of doctors for various effective scalp surgeries if required.
