Scratch - A New Programming Language for Kids
Scratch, a new programming language especially designed for young students of around 8 yrs of age and above. It lets them to create own interactive stories, animations, games, music, artwork, designs etc and share their creations online on the Scratch website. It was developed at MIT Media Lab by Lifelong Kindergarten group. It’s available for free to anyone in Windows, MAC and Linux version.

The main focus of this programming language is to develop creative thinking, computational skills and group working among young children. Programming with Scratch is very easy and intersting like puzzle assembling. All they have to do is drag and drop different elements on the dashboard and link, execute them with proper functionality. It comes with an easy to use GUI interface to attract young people. Scratch is getting popular day by day and already nearly 500K projects uploaded on the website. Addtionally to spread this new generation lanugage for students, Scratch is available in many lanuages. Students can share their works online on Scratch website just by clicking simple SHARE button (see the screenshot below).

It comes with many inbuilt shapes, characters, figures, sounds etc. At the top section of main Window, you will get buttons like New, Open, Save, Save As, Share, Undo, etc. Start creating your first project by clicking the New button and with controls like, Motion, Looks, Sound etc. You can download your required version of Scratch by clicking here and download a complete tutorial here in PDF format.
