SEO and Link Building - Avoid Bad Neighborhoods to Evade Unnecessary Penalty

A website’s ranking on top search engines are one of the most essential elements for a marketing promotion of an e-commerce business. One can employ various available legitimate methods to enhance a website’s link popularity. However, unfortunately there are a few dishonest web masters by implying illegal strategies, try to misguide the search engines to attain higher and quick ranks. In order to find these dishonest web masters, there are a few times when even a genuine website faces the search engine’s suspicion penalty without any mistake.

Although, genuine sites doesn’t need to worry any more since search engines have now planned out certain techniques to track the “spam” webpage which are used for the purpose of link popularity by employing artificial methods. While such websites are traced by the search engine, they are either removed from the search engine index or are demoted in the ranking.

Though these strategies help top search engines tracking the “spam” pages, yet to avoid further confusion and not being penalized devoid of any mistake, it is necessary for an e-commerce site to be very cautious regarding certain things in order to evade unnecessary callous treatment.

Link Popularity

One of the most important criteria to offer higher search engine rankings is the link popularity. This is rather most commonly used technique every search engine follows on the Net. Since popularity of link is based upon the links which are allied to a website, there are some of the main points of focus in order to evade any such suspicion of spamming. There are a few top search engines, often lay penalties on the websites which have linked their websites to other sites only to generate link popularity.

These links are commonly known as “bad neighborhoods”, which can be outbound links and inbound links. Whilst, genuine e-commerce websites can enjoy an advantage of no impeding penalties on the inbound links which are bad neighbors, since these links are formulated by search engines itself than the site.  However outbound links are a website’s responsibility as well as should be linked carefully, without spamming. Having two or one bad neighborhoods are not that big problem, but constant links can result in great penalty.

Hence, in order to ensure that a site has not been linked to the bad neighborhood, one should check whether the web pages that have been linked already have penalized or not. This can effectively be confirmed by simply downloading the toolbar of Google and checking a website’s page rank which is apparent from the descending green-scale available on the toolbar of Google.

Any e-commerce site that doesn’t represent any green-scale mark should not be linked with your website. Also, the web pages which are grey on scale can be penalized before-hand which should be evaded as well. Linking to such websites can also lead to getting penalized by the search engines. A website showing little silver color on the green-scale is much safer to be linked-to because they haven’t been penalized as well as their popularity may rise with time.
