Service Management
Service management is the technique used in various workplaces as a means of providing various services to help with the overall flow of work. This is also sometimes known as IT service management, as it is used quite frequently in the IT industry. Most of the time, service management is used together with different support systems in order to gain maximum efficiency.
These various systems may include inventory management, order management, performance diagnostics, activation, and a few other different support methods or systems. All of these combined, as previously mentioned, help to ensure the system(s) is running clean and free of any errors that may have previously existed.
There are a few different processes in service management. This usually incorporates automatic processes, which can be combined with manual labor to produce to most effective workflow. The automated services can make sure certain things are in check, such as system security, and the manual labor comes into play in making sure the automated systems are working properly.
Various management systems that incorporate service management into their daily functions include Six Sigma, CMMI (Capability Maturing Model and Integration), TQM (Total Quality Management), and Business Process Management (BPM). The beauty of it all is that it may be used with not only small scale businesses or companies, but also can be effective with large scale corporations. This model has been around since the 1970’s and has been being used successfully since then.
The principles of service management have been successfully incorporated into various business corporations worldwide. Many different resources and other providers help out all types of businesses as a whole. To name a few different service management providers: IBM Service Management, Altrius Management Suite, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Novell Zenworks, and iSYS. Those are some of the more major service management providers.
While these service providers help out businesses manage computers in general, there are a few other vendors that provide management services alone. An example of one of these types of providers would be Econ Global Services. This type of service is more wide scale and covers a bit more than just monitoring the automated systems, which is what category computers fall into.
All in all, you can see how automated systems help the general business run smoother. Without them, manual labor would be pushed more, and would naturally be followed not only by common mistakes, but also be general inefficiencies and higher service costs.
