SMA Connector

Somewhere in 1960’s, there was a connector developed for the radio frequency which has a purpose of making it easier connecting coaxial cables. This connector designed for the radio frequency was called the SMA connector. The SMA connectors are made using a typical screw-type design. It allows quicker establishing of connections. The SMA connector can be used in both the applications of direct current and alternating.

As used for other connectors, those made using the technique of push and pulls, this SMA connector is designed exclusively for the screw type connections. These SMA connectors are mostly constructed using either brass or stainless steel. The SMA connector compromises of a hex nut of a.312 along with the male connector and brings 1.250×36 in its use.

An average SMA connector may vary from DC to 18 GHz. It is rated with an operation that is mode free. There are a few customized versions of the SMA connectors available in the market. These customized SMA connectors rate high to the level of 26.5 GHz. For appliances or machinery that uses more than 26.5 GHz are not at all suitable for the SMA connectors to be used for them. It can be used for rather a shot period of time when there is no other option but too much usage of SMA connectors for above 26.5 GHz can make the life short of the connector.

There is a proper way by which a connection can be made with an SMA connector. It is a bad idea for any one to decide to establish a connection by ownself without knowing how it is done. If during establishing the connection the undue force is brought into use, it can result in damaging the connector as the SMA connectors are made using metal. Ideally, it should be considered using a wrench that can fit easily around the nut in such a way that it does not affect or damages the nut during the establishing of connection. And after that, when it comes to tightening the nut, it should be made sure that the rest of the connector is not moving with it. If you do not give importance to this measure and allow the connector to swing with the nut, the SMA connector can prove to be damaging by tearing the connector and as a result shortening the life of your device in the long run, which of course is no good.
