Get Thunderbird Return Receipt
What are Return Receipts ?
While sending mails return receipts are used to inform the sender that the mail has been read by the receiver. In Thunderbird, when you click on a new mail, you will get a pop up like this -
which asks for confirmation whether the sender should get informed or not. Return receipts are very useful to prevent mails getting send to spam folder. Though there is some chance that the recipient may not click on yes but this happens rarely.
How to put Return Receipts in Thunderbird Mails ?
When you are composing a mail, go to Options and click on Return Receipt
Now when this mail is read by the recipient, you will get a confirmation mail. If you want to set this for every mail then you can change your global settings for the mail account. Go to Tools -> Account Settings and under your account, select “customize return receipts for this account” and select “When sending messages, always request a return receipt”
You can make further changes like getting all receipt message in a separate folder rather then in Inbox too though I like to keep them in inbox itself as it creates lot of confusion for me ![]()
