• High: Statistics between 200 to 499 mg/dl denotes that a person has relatively high triglycerides level.
• Very high: A person with more than 500 mg/dl has elevated levels of triglyceride components.
It is easy to know in which range your triglycerides level falls by simply going for a blood test. For this test, a person is required to fast for a period of 9 hours, before undertaking the blood test in order to measure an accurate triglycerides level.
Causes of increased triglycerides levels
There are a few reasons that can lead to have high triglycerides levels, which are:
• Weight gain: If a person is obese and rarely exercises, then there is a significant prospect to have lofty triglycerides level. This is due to the increase in weight that might have lead to increased triglyceride levels.
• Age: As a person grows old, the triglycerides level within the body also increases gradually.
• Hereditary: There are a few people, genetically pre-disposed to elevated triglycerides levels since it’s running in their DNA.
• Excess calories: Intake of excess food stuff or beverages, with high levels of saturated fats, starch, sugar and carbohydrates also increases the triglycerides level.
