Trunking
Trunking is the way of communication through electronic media & is widely used nowadays. Trunking allows communication systems such as telephone networks to allow far flung access to multiple users. This is accomplished by the power to permit users to share-out a specific set of frequencies, instead of taking a single line / trunk for every user. The final outcome of this method of sharing of frequency causes quick & more stable network for a large subscriber base.
Trunking has caused the communication services which we use on a daily basis to be possible. Let us consider the Private branch exchange (PBX) system which is used in several offices to receive & process incoming calls which is made possible by the Trunking. The incoming call arrives in the PBX system on the trunk line. This trunk call is then taken by a line which is supplied by the telephone service provider. Once PBX receives the signal it can send the call to any wing of the department that is currently alive on the system. Concurrent incoming calls can be transmitted through the same trunk, & end on the PBX for further processing. In Trunking the callers never receive busy signals & an attendant can receive and acknowledge calls straight off, even if the system is dealing with several other calls at the same moment. This same method of Trunking is used in teleconferencing bridges allowing many different lines / trunks to connect with Conference Bridge concurrently.
Trunking is also used in public radio safety systems. In this system Trunking allows the announcement to be made using several different frequencies to reach the concerned people. In the case that a frequency is not functioning for some reason, the trunked data moves on to the next frequency & continues to work thus making announcements in a public safety condition seamless.
Trunking also plays a role in computer networks. In this system, cables & ports are trunked to achieve faster speed in execution of commands.
