TVRO

TVRO is one of the types of satellite TV system. TVRO is an abbreviation to the term Television Receive Only systems; TVRO terminology is used in the North America continent as a terminology to refer the Free to Air FTA systems of Europe, Asia and other continents.
TVRO terms are used to refer the free signals received from satellite or air as well as paid programming over the same equipment. TVRO works on C band and some in Ku band too. The TVRO over C band frequencies become the Free View TVRO whereas the TVRO over the Ku band frequencies become the paid programming.

TVRO Free programming doesn’t need any encryption as it is the primitive FTA concept. FTA receiver or TVRO free receivers’ catches up any information possible with its receiver from the atmosphere. It converts the radio signals from electromagnetic spectrum into electric signals. Later these electrical signals are converted to video and audio signals by the TB box.

TVRO paid programming could be analog channels or Digital channels. Analog signals are encoded with analog techniques like ‘Video Cipher’ whereas Digital signals are encoded with digital encoding techniques like ‘Digi Cipher’.

TVRO free programming is now getting outdated in North America because of the introduction of DBS Direct Broadcast Satellite systems. The DBS satellite TV providers like Direct TV, Dish network market their service providing more channels using the KU band satellite. However DBS providers have started to merge with TVRO free broadcasters to satisfy the TVRO viewers as well as market to make them become DBS customers providing paid as well as free programs. However, the future of free TVRO in North America remains a big question mark.
