Research in Motion (RIM), the Manufacturer of BlackBerry regularly updates their OS and applications to provide best and latest possible features. If you are using BlackBerry handset then you should also update the OS regularly to get up to date with all recent features. You can update your BlackBerry OS easily by following the steps mentioned below.

• First of all you need to identify the current version of BlackBerry OS. You will get this information by going Options -> About. You can see the about screen like below.

• Now download the latest version of BlackBerry OS from here and choose your model. On the other hand, if your handset it locked then you need to visit your carrier’s website for details.
• Next you need to download and Install the latest BlackBerry Desktop Manager Software. You can download it from here.

• Now you are ready to upgrade your current OS. Before doing anything, backup all your current data, phone book etc using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
• Now after opening the Desktop Manager, plugin your BlackBerry handset with the PC via the USB cable.
• After connecting the handset it will automatically search for available updates and will generate a summary with all details.

• From the advanced tab, you can add and update additional applications which are not included on that summary. Now start installing the new OS.
• At the final stage, you will get another summary which shows you how to activate and register the handset with your carrier. Don’t worry, it will be done automatically.

I have upgraded blackberry OS 4.5 like this and it should work on other version of blackberry operating systems too.
