Though Vitamin C is the most essential component required by a human body, provided if proper amount or dose is taken. Vitamin C overdose can cause rigorous problems among people like hindering the metabolism activities throughout the body.
Recommended Dose
Recommended dietary allowance for Vitamin C is 75 mg/day for non-smoking adults & women and for men a minimum dose should be 90 mg/day. For women who smoke, at least 110 mg/day is required to consume and for men 125 mg/day is necessary. Eating 200 mg Vitamin C per day is adequate enough to capitalize on the lymphocytes and plasma levels.
Adverse effects of Vitamin C Overdose
• Vitamin C is a water soluble protein. In certain conditions any protein or vitamin if is in excess is generally excreted through the body. If that excess amount of vitamin is not excreted that it can result in stomach cramps, gas and diarrhea.
• Some of the other adverse effects of Vitamin C overdose can be a menace for kidney stones and nausea.
• If an individual already consists of iron-abundance disorder, even small dose of Vitamin C can create severe health related issues.
• Vitamin C overdose if taken by pregnant women can also lead to infants developing scurvy when born.
• Overdose of Vitamin C if taken in excess can lead to serious health issues, regardless of age. Elder people are also required to be cautious if taking supplements of Vitamin C. Since, elderly people are prone to developing toxic levels in kidneys, resulting in severe medical issues.
• People with high-blood pressure or diabetes can also get affected from Vitamin C overdose and results in mounting toxicity levels within the body.
• Overdose of Vitamin C for long time can even lead an individual to develop high risks for cancer.
Symptoms of Vitamin C overdose:
• Decreased urine output
• Dental cavities
• Facial flushing
• Headache
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Dizziness
• Abdominal pain
• Fever
• Tenderness
• Itchy skin
• Jaundice
• Severe back-pain
