Repair a wet iPhone
last week I had talked about what to do if you drop your phone in water, now here is another article, what to do if you drop your iphone in water or if it get wet due to water on it because of rain or water spilled on it.
If you dropped your iPhone in the toilet, jumped in the swimming pool with it in your pocket or just forgot it in the rain, don’t panic, there is still hope for it! I will show you how to repair a wet iPhone in a few easy steps. If you don’t feel confident enough to do this you should better take your wet iPhone to a authorized Apple service.
1. Remove the battery
Once you realize it is in the water get it out as soon as possible and don’t try to see if it’s working anymore and don’t even try to turn it on if it seems off. Any electric signal you generate inside has a great potential to short it out and it can permanently damage it if it hasn’t already. Also take out your SIM card because you may lose any contacts saved on it.
2. Dry your iPhone
To repair a wet iPhone you need to dry it as much as you can. Take out any removable piece, shake them as well as the phone to get as much water out as possible. Use paper towels to suck the water; using fabric towels or clothes instead of paper towels can build up static energy and you don’t want that to happen.
The perfect scenario would be for you to have a vacuum chamber. But as there are slim chances for you to have one use your vacuum cleaner with a tight nozzle to suck any water left. Do NOT use a blow dryer no matter what air temperature you’re using. This way, instead of getting the water out of your wet iPhone will don nothing more than force it deeper and will take longer to dry.
The final step will take a little longer. Put your phone in desiccant (those little balls you find in packages and boxes when you buy stuff which sucks the moisture out). If you don’t have desiccant and can’t find any place to buy from, some rice will do the job. “Sink” the wet iPhone in any of those two and leave it there at least over the night if not more. Also, try to leave it in a dry, hot room.
After you are as sure as you can it has dried, connect the phone to the charger without the battery. If it turns on it means it is well, if not it’s most certainly dead. If it works with the charger and won’t start with the battery installed it means the battery has shorted out and you will need to buy a new one.
This is how you can repair a wet iPhone with these tips and you can save and fix your iphone and hopefully yours it’s not dead. If you were lucky this time make sure you back-up all your data regularly, you never know when it may happen again.
