SVCHOST.EXE process is one of the most important processes on Windows. Basically svchost as the name says, it assists to host services for other applications. In Windows, a service is a program with a specific job to execute on the background simultaneously from the time system is switched on. In few cases it runs even after login the system off also. It is quite true that sometime many users treat this service as a virus or malware.

Most of the programs or applications run as a stand alone executable file. But, most of the services appear from DLLs which can not run separately. In such cases svchost.exe acts as a host and helps to run those DLLs. Simply by opening the Task Manager, you can see there are number of svchost.exe process are running.

Actually, running number of svchost.exe depends on the number of application current open and being executed. Also all these svchost.exe will be appearing on the task manage with different kind of service CPU usage. For example, few of those are doing Local Services, few with Network Service and System.

Now the main question is if any of those svchost.exe using 100% CPU then how can we identify which application is that? Yes, you can identify those. Firstly, you can track it manually with the help of command prompt and services tool. Secondly, you need to install use any 3rd party tool.
Once you find and identify the application that causing svchost.exe to eat up all CPU resource and memory, you can simply kill that process. Sometime, windows update can cause this kind of problem.

Also, try to keep you Windows with all latest patches and update which will decrease the chance of this kind of svchost problem.
