Wordpress being the most popular blogging software has also been through lot of comment spamming as its very easy to do it in wordpress where commenting do not require any registration or captcha and though wordpress and automattic has tried there level best to prevent spamming, it just doesn’t seem to be working.

One of the current popular way of wordpress spamming (which I gets alot) is to not put any link in the comment message as it will get flagged by Akismet plugin but instead just fill the normal url filed and in comment, fill a very generic comment which fits in all blog posts (not the thank you, great post kind of message but something more and better) and then start spamming.

Here is one example of such spam comment -

The comment is really generic and it don’t look like spam and most likely will get approved by all the blogs, some bloggers taking their time to even reply to it. But if you copy the content of the comment and post in google search, you can see in results that the same comment has been made on hundreds of blogs. Even though the link is nofollow, still such kind of commenting must be getting spammer loads of traffic due to sheer volume of spamming. I hope wordpress also allows feature of flagging comments by readers so such comments can also be blocked by akismet.
