wscntfy.exe

wscntfy.exe is an executable file that is called the Windows security center which is a portion of Microsoft Windows Security system where wscntfy.exe file is a vital program for the stability of you computer and this process shouldn’t be killed but it doesn’t have to be running all the time too. The wscntfy.exe executable file supplies you with information about the latest updates occurring on your computer and your virus protection status as long as it supplies you with the firewall status.

As it is the habit of virus’ writers, they use the name of non-malware programs to disguise their malwares, spywares, viruses or Trojans. So the wscntfy.exe can be a password-stealing Trojan if you found it is not located at its proper location. If we checked the task manager, by clicking Alt+Ctrl+Del and then the process tab, we are supposed to find one wscntfy.exe process running with a certain username, while it can run using the username SYSTEM too. The wscntfy.exe executable file, as all other operating system files, should be located in the Windows directory and inside the System32 subfolder. If the wscntfy.exe is not located where I have mentioned then it could me a malicious program disguising in the wscntfy.exe name.

The wscntfy.exe executable file shouldn’t be on your operating system if you are not using XP service pack 2, all the Windows operating system before that shouldn’t contain the wscntfy.exe executable file, else, if you found it on your computer you should suspect it as a malicious program.
It’s the same old story used by the virus’ writers to use the operating system executable files names for their viruses, spywares or malwares. There are commonly known Trojans that logs keystrokes and captures periodic screenshots and disguise under the wscntfy.exe executable file name. Other Trojans are used to attack infected computers, mass mailing Trojans and backdoor Trojans, all of these uses the wscntfy.exe executable file name.

The wscntfy.exe executable file doesn’t consume much of the memory nor decrease the operating system performance by eating the CPU and we can consider the wscntfy.exe executable file as one of the least operating system files that are used as a malware, Trojan, spyware or a virus.
You can disable this process by entering your control panel and in the security center under the resources change the alerts settings and clear all the checkboxes of the firewall, automatic updates and the virus protection.
