1. Always talk to buyer on phone/skype and get his address (verified). Normally frauds never talk on phone and never give their addresses.

2. Try to ship some tangible item to the buyer, say if the deal is worth $3000 then ship a CD worth $10 to him and put its value as $3000 so you will always have proof of shipping and delivering. This is a little complicated method but you can talk to the buyer and discuss this. May be if you are going through this much pain, why not just get an agreement signed by him ?

3. In paypal disputes, paypal always take favor of buyer if their is no tangible item. This paypal policy has been misused by various online frauds, If the money is too large, may be you will be better off using escrow.com instead of paypal. This is not a solution but an alternative to avoid paypal disputes as once as a seller you get into dispute, you can't do anything other then seeing your money vanishing.
