Amarnath (Jammu & Kashmir) Hotels

Amarnath, situated in Jammu and Kashmir is very famous Pilgrimage destination and Important Hindu temple for the Hindus. This temple is much older than many other Hindu pilgrims. It holds three ice formations representing ‘Shiv Linga’, Parvati and Lord Ganesha. Because these lingas’ are formed naturally by ice stalagmites they hold much importance according to the beliefs of Hindus. One of the best times to visit this place is the summer time. This ‘Linga’ matures and contracts with diverse moon phases as well as reaches its altitude in summer time. People celebrate this 45 days season as a carnival and more than 400,000 people visit this place during this season.
With 3888 meters altitude below sea level along with 141 kms distance from Srinagar, this holy cave is the major tourist attraction. The Indian Army holds overall control over Amarnath; therefore permission is mandatory if you are planning a vacation to this sacred place.

Accommodation in Amarnath:

There are no luxury hotels in Amarnath for high end tourists. The accommodation facilities are basically provided by Government. Since, Amarnath yatra is more like a trekking from Pehalgam, tented accommodation facilities are available for the yatris or visitors. Along the route there are night halts available at Nunwan Camp. Apart from that there are also few non-Government charitable institutions providing tent amenities for the yatris. Stay at night halts is relatively cheap since one tent can easily accommodate around 12 people at a time. Quilts, lanters, mattresses and pillows are also provided.

How to reach

By air: Bagdam district is very well interlinked with the Major Indian cities and is nearest airport among all.

By rail: The nearest railway station is Jammu which is around 300 kms away.
By road from nearby cities: Pahalgam is only 45 kms away from Amarnath and perhaps the closest among other places. Srinagar is another place which is 141 kms away along with well-connected road all over the state. You can also approach taxies and buses for traveling.
