Before we go into the details of checking the PNR status, it is essential to understand what exactly is PNR. Passenger Name Record or PNR is a piece of data that is stored in the database of the Computer Reservation System of the Indian Railways. Basically, it contains the journey details of the passenger. From the technical perspective, PNR has five parts viz.

• Passenger Name
• Name and address of the travel agent
• Ticket details
• The journey details of at least one segment
• Name of the person who is making the booking

Checking PNR status is really easy; you just have to open the official website of the Indian Railways and click at the link PNR enquiry. You will be asked to enter the PNR number, which is printed on the left corner of your ticket. It is a 10-digit number that tells you the status of your reservation. You can also check your PNR status via SMS. You have to type PNR followed by your PNR number and send the message to 5676747 or 139. Within a few minutes, you will get information about your PNR status.
