I was closely following US healthcare debate as it is interesting to see, how people are so desperate to have universal healtcare. The cost of medical treatment and surgeries are way too much in USA, there are huge waiting period of 12 months before you get your surgery and for people who have no insurance coverage they can not do anything. ofcourse to implement Universal healthcare, US government has to put hundreds of billions of dollars which will come from the tax payers pocket, so it is like socialist healthcare, something which India has right from independence.

But this is where I feels India has to go the other way, India need to commercialized its healthcare, let more corporate come in and let them make some profit, with health competition, they won’t raise the prices too much keeping the treatment within reach of booming Indian middle class. One more thing which I feels can take off is medical tourism (exohealth seems to be one of the biggest medical facilitator in India with 6 branches).

I often visit Apollo in Chennai and the number of ppl from outside India is astonishing, so these hospitals can make money from these people and do pro bono service for the poor who can not afford to get in them. This Private Public Partnership is probably the way to take Indian health care industry.
