Tatkal booking of Train Ticket

Half of the summer is gone and Indian trains are having huge waiting list of 200+ and more in sleeper class. I tried to book a ticket and there was no ticket available in any of the five trains even after 3 weeks. Needless to say, I am going through “tatkal” route now.

With tatkal system, you can get a ticket 2 days before the departure of the train for additional Rs 75 for Sleeper, Rs 200 for AC III Tier and Rs 300 for AC II Tier which is fairly reasonable since in summer, the waiting list often don’t get cleared, specially for AC II tier and AC III tier.

IRCTC site not working

In the Morning when I tried to open IRCTC site it was not working. This is not the first time this has happened and certainly won’t be the last time as I think 25% of the time, your ticket booking never gets completed.

After spending 5-10 minutes selecting all the options, the moment I click on payment option, I get logout of the site saying some unexpected error happened and I have to start everything all over again. What I never understood is, why can’t they store sessions for people to I again don’t have to start everything.

Haier Air Conditioner India Review - very bad experience

I had written an Air Conditioner review few days back telling you guys that I have purchased Haier Air Conditioner because I got all the cable/tube with it unlike voltas Air conditioners (and others), now here is the problem, It is not working!

Apparently the “gas” of the air conditioner is leaking as per Haier, it took them 7 days to refill the gas and after two weeks, the gas again went out. I have made numerous calls to Haier support and they say they will come and see but nothing has been done so far.

Are you in USA, have no Insurance or don’t want to wait ? then come to India for Treatment and Surgery

I had visited Apollo last month for some medical treatment (it is long story, but lets say, I have some health issues) and I was really surprised to see number of foreign patients there. I have to say, Apollo has certainly promoted it well to foreign tourist and kudos to them for corporatizing the indian healthcare market, now I can see more and more hospitals going public to raise funds to build better infrastructure.

The term medical tourism is so called when patients go to a different country for either urgent or elective medical procedures. This industry is rapidly growing and is fast becoming a worldwide, multibillion-dollar industry.

Which Inverter and Battery to for Power Backup in India

Summer has started and along with summer, here comes power cuts. Its part of Indian life specially if you live in small cities. Now we have two options, either to sit doing nothing in hot summer sweating and cursing state electricity board or to get a backup power option of Inverter and Battery. Since I am running multiple Inverter and Battery, I think I am in very good position to review them :)

So first you need to decide what exactly you want to run on your power backup ? most likely a fan, a tublelight and a CFL (in case you don’t want to use tubelight which consumers more power, you should always have a CFL too).

Rajdhani Travel Experience in Second class AC

last week I trvelled in Rajdhani Express (Bangalore to Delhi) for the first time as I had never travelled in it before! Not that that traveling in Rajdhani has remain any kind of status symbol or something, infact I don’t think even now traveling in a plane has been a status symbol, I am still reviwing my journey by Rajdhani as it was an interesting experience and will help poor souls like me who doesn’t travel much and are traveling by rajdhani by first time.

So it was a 2300 KM journey which was supposed to take 34 hours and I was told that all breakfast, lunch and dinner including tea/snacks will be served which was nice since I had paid 50% more for my journey. A typical AC II Tier journey costs Rs 2000 from Bangalore to Delhi but here I had paid Rs 2800 and the fact that Rajdhani is no more faster than Sampark Kranti, I was expecting the food to make up for the Rs 800 extra, and I wasn’t really disappointed.

ICICI ULIP Fraud - DO NOT buy ICICI ULIP

SEBI has stop banks issuing anymore ULIP policies (I am not surprised) and though the exact reasons of why SEBI is frowning on ULIPs are still not fully clear, I can certainly relate my story here where how ICICI agent sold my ICICI prudential ULIP policy by misguiding me and hiding important information.

I wanted to buy a Mutual fund for which I approached ICICI bank, the representative offered me lot of option (I had went primarily for HDFC Top 200) and sold me ICICI prudential after hiding some crucial details like it has 3 year locking period where each year I have to pay 50k and it is not really a mutual fund, even though they are selling it like that. Then I went out of city for a month and when I came back, I saw all the details of policy and wrote a complaint to ICICI, I got a reply in weeks saying that there was a 2 week window where i could had canceled my policy, I said I wasn’t there in town and the point is, the ICICI executive lied to me about the policy.
