More on Indian Railways

From 1853 to 2009, the Indian Railways has certainly come a long way. The 63,140 Kms of rail network is the 5th largest in the world, and not just covers 28 states and 3 union territories, but also stretches up to Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan. Each year, the railways transport 7 billion passengers and 350 million tones of freight. This statistic clearly indicates the enormity, expansiveness and extensiveness of railway system in India.
