Regional Passport Office or RPO Kolkata was established in the year 1955 to provide passport related services to 20 districts of West Bengal, 4 districts of Sikkim and 4 districts of Tripura. The primary function of RPO Kolkata is to provide passport application forms, take in duly filled up forms, scrutinize the forms, issue the passports, renew the passports, and tackle all kind of queries and complaints related to passport.

In addition to the brick and mortar office at 4, Brabourne Road, RPO Kolkata also maintains a website to help also those people living in far off places to easily apply for the passport. The website provides lots of information on different aspects of passport like how to fill up the application form, what is tatkaal scheme, what is Passport Act and RTI, and what is the fee structure of different types of passport and so forth. Furthermore, the status of passport application can also be easily checked through the site.
