The Happening City of Pune

Brief Description

Pune, a fast progressing city of western India, derives its name from the word ‘punya nagari’, which means “city of virtue’. The city is the second largest in Western India and is rich in its architectural and cultural Heritage. Pune is now a major educational centre producing uncountable scholars in various fields. An evening in the lighted city is a wonderful experience and a memorable one too.

History

Pune was first ruled by the Rashtrakutas. Later it was ruled by the Marathas and underwent maximum development under Shivaji in 1649.

How to reach Pune

It is well mapped and connected by roads and railways connecting major cities of India. Pune is also home to an international airport. The Pune International Airport is called the Lohegaon Airport and handles both domestic and overseas air traffic. Mumbai, India’s financial capital is also the capital of the state of Maharasthra. If you go from Mumbai to Pune then there are convenient road, train and air transport services.

Climate

The climate of Pune is moderate to pleasant throughout the year and in fact because of this good weather people like living in Pune. Located adjacent to the Western Ghat during the monsoon reason the city experiences quite heavy rainfall. The monsoon period is generally between June-September.

Tourist attractions near Pune:

Kanheri Caves: The caves, housed in the heart of the Borivali National park, are a brilliant symbolization of how Buddhism flourished in India during ancient period. The Buddhist monasteries and temple halls and stupas are the integral parts and a must visits here.

The Juhu Beach-The vast spacious beach has three entrances, Santa Cruz, Andheri and Vile Park. Being the main place of attraction in the metro city, the place is often crowded with people of all ages

Daulatabad: Situated at about 13 km from Aurangabad, this remote village is invincible for its charming scenic beauty. The fortress erected in this place has a very long 5 km bricked wall. A stroll through the fortification is extremely exciting and fun.

Ghrishneshwar temple Dedicated to Lord Shiva is very close to Ellora Caves. The temple stands separate and unique for its carvings and beautifully sculpted shrines.

Gautala Wildlife Sanctuary is at a distance of 70 km located northwest of Aurangabad. It has a rich variety of flora and fauna and the air is pure and has a healing effect on the minds of people visiting the place.

Bibi-ka-maqbara: This archaeological masterpiece, famous as the replica of one of the seven wonders, the Taj Mahal, enlivens the visitors with its brilliance and charm. The Maqbara is in the heart of the city.
