So here are few tips and suggestions on what to do to minimize the damage when you miss the train

1. Don’t panic, everyone misses their train once in a life, its no big deal, you are only going to lose some time and money.

2. Did you missed the train by few minutes or you didn’t even reached the platform ? if you are on platform and missed it by few minutes, talk to TT, he will cancel your ticket and refund 25% or 50% of the money depending on the type of ticket. There are no refunds for tatkal tickets.

3. If you had reserved the ticket online, it is certain you won’t get any refund as the procedure for refunding online tickets is way too messy. You have to first get a note from the Ticket Checker on the platform that you indeed reached the platform and are the legal holder of the ticket. Than you have to go to http://irctc.co.in and fill the ticket cancellation form to initiate the process. In most cases, you won’t be eligible for filing for ticket cancellation, in case you are, you will have to physically present in railway court to explain your matter, I have my doubts that anyway go with all this.

4. Now after missing the train and taking care of the ticket cancellation, you want to get the next train possible, so you can either get in the ticket line or can talk to some travel agents. There must be dozens of agents having shops around railway station so you can go to them but be careful, they can charge ridiculous amount of fees. Try to negotiate with them and pretend to leave, he will cut down the price.
