Which Inverter and Battery to for Power Backup in India
Summer has started and along with summer, here comes power cuts. Its part of Indian life specially if you live in small cities. Now we have two options, either to sit doing nothing in hot summer sweating and cursing state electricity board or to get a backup power option of Inverter and Battery. Since I am running multiple Inverter and Battery, I think I am in very good position to review them
So first you need to decide what exactly you want to run on your power backup ? most likely a fan, a tublelight and a CFL (in case you don’t want to use tubelight which consumers more power, you should always have a CFL too).
To manage 1 Fan + 1 tubelight + 1 CFL for 4 hours atleast, you can easily get an inverter + battery at a price of Rs 8000. The person may charge few hundred rupees to do the fitting. You can go for exide batter of 150 Ampere or any other good battery (I have a ADDO battery) with warranty of 18 months atleast. I wanted to go with Exide but went with ADDO as the wholesale dealer of the batter is a good friend of mine and he said if I get any problem with it ever, he will take care of it. I have inverter of Proview which are considered to be best.
If you want to manage say 2 Fan + 2 tubelight + 2 CFL, you have to go for 180 amp battery with inverter which can support that battery, when I had purchasee this last year, it had costed me Rs fifteen thousand (Rs 15,000).
If you want to run a computer with a 17″ old fashioned monitor, you are in some trouble as they eat lot of power! I had tried to use my old computer with 17 inch monitor but half of time time, when there was a power cut, my computer used to get rebooted. And even if the system don’t used to get rebooted, the batter used to run out in 20 mins, so it is a good idea not to run computers on Battery and Inverter and if you really have to, replace these old CRT monitors with new LCD screens, they consumer very little power
It is worth noting that you can not run TV and air conditioners on such battery and inverter combination.
If you have any questions, you can ask me in comments about purchasing inverter and battery.
