Restore Firefox Bookmarks

Many times in system crashes or firefox crashes, you can lose your firefox bookmarks. So from 100's of Bookmarks which you were making for years are now gone and you are left with probably 1 or 2 website! So what you can do ? well, First of all don't panic, your firefox bookmarks haven't been lost and you can easily recover them.

How to Restore Firefox Bookmarks

0. Close Firefox

1. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ folder and see what is there. Most likely there will be a folder with name like 382f58lg.default.

2. Open that folder and see if you can find bookmarks.html file. You should be able to see it. Most likely its size will be less then 10 KB since its a new file. Normally if you have hundreds of bookmarks, the file size of bookmarks.html will be in 400KB+

3. You also should be able to see a folder named bookmarkbackups in same directory. Firefox saves bookmarks of the past 5 days in this folder (Awesome!)

Restore Firefox Bookmarks

Now first rename the existing bookmarks.html file to backup_bookmarks.html and then copy the latest bookmark file from bookmarkbackups folder (most likely it will be having today's date) and put it into the profile folder and rename it to bookmarks.html

So we are just replacing the new bookmark file with the firefox backup version.

4. Now restart firefox and you should be able to see all your bookmarks again.

This restoring method is applicable on all version of windows and on other operating systems, the path name may change but you should be able to easily find it.
